Sponsored Walk
Tackle a scenic route and get sponsored for every mile. Walks suit all ages and fitness levels, making them ideal for family and community fundraising.
Overview
A sponsored walk is one of the most inclusive fundraising challenges — it welcomes all ages, fitness levels, and mobility needs. Whether it's a 5-mile countryside stroll or a 25-mile long-distance trail, a sponsored walk brings people together around a shared physical goal and a shared cause.
The sponsorship model — where supporters pledge a fixed amount per mile — works particularly well because it ties the fundraising directly to your effort. Every extra mile you walk earns more for your cause.
What you need
- A chosen route — mapped, tested, and with clear start and finish points
- A free Kayana Aid sponsorship page
- Appropriate walking kit (boots, waterproofs, layers)
- Printed sponsor forms for offline pledges
- Emergency contact and first aid awareness for longer routes
- Water, food, and a fully charged phone
Step-by-step
- 01
Choose your route
Pick a route that's challenging enough to be a genuine achievement but accessible to your group. Popular options include local walking trails, national parks, pilgrim routes, and sponsored charity walk events with existing infrastructure.
- 02
Set up your Kayana Aid page
Create your sponsorship page with your route, distance, and target amount. Include a map or route description — supporters love to visualise the challenge.
- 03
Collect sponsorship pledges
Share your page with friends, family, and colleagues. Aim to collect at least 15–20 pledges before walk day — this builds momentum and makes the event feel real.
- 04
Walk the route and share updates
Post photos and updates from the trail on your Kayana Aid page and social media. A live progress update halfway through often triggers additional donations.
- 05
Complete and collect
After completing the route, ask pledgers to pay up via your Kayana Aid page. Post a completion photo and your final total — both inspire remaining pledgers to pay quickly.
Tips & tricks
- Organising a group walk rather than walking alone multiplies your potential fundraising — each participant creates their own page under a team campaign.
- A sunrise or moonlit walk adds novelty and generates more social media interest than a standard daytime walk.
- Local walking clubs and ramblers groups often join charity walks — reach out to groups in your area for co-promotion.
- Enable Gift Aid on your Kayana Aid page — it's the simplest 25% uplift available to you for eligible donors.
