Bake Sale
Homemade cakes, biscuits, and treats sold for charity — a timeless, low-cost event that works in schools, offices, churches, and community spaces.
Overview
A bake sale is one of the simplest and most beloved fundraising events. Almost everyone can participate — you don't need a venue budget, specialist equipment, or weeks of planning. You just need an oven, a cause, and a few willing bakers.
The key is creating a genuine buzz before the day. Share photos of your baking on social media the night before and link to your Kayana Aid page so people who can't attend in person can still donate.
What you need
- Baking ingredients and equipment
- A venue (school hall, office kitchen, community centre, church)
- Packaging (cellophane bags, boxes, labels)
- A cashbox or card reader for payments
- Price labels and a display table
- A Kayana Aid fundraising page for online donations
Step-by-step
- 01
Pick your venue and date
Confirm a venue that gets natural footfall — an office common area, school playground, or community event. A Friday morning or lunchtime in an office typically works well.
- 02
Recruit your bakers
Put out a call for contributors — the more variety, the better. A mix of cakes, biscuits, bread, and treats appeals to everyone including people with dietary requirements.
- 03
Create your Kayana Aid page
Set up your fundraising page before the event so people who see your social media posts can donate even if they can't attend in person.
- 04
Price your goods fairly
Homemade items are worth more to buyers than they think. Don't underprice — £2–£3 for a slice of cake is entirely reasonable for a charity bake sale.
- 05
Sell, share, and say thank you
Post photos from the day on social media and on your Kayana Aid page. Update your total raised and thank your bakers and buyers publicly.
Tips & tricks
- Labelling allergens on every item is not only legally sensible, it builds buyer confidence.
- Accepting card payments as well as cash significantly increases your takings — most people don't carry cash.
- Pre-sell baked items via your Kayana Aid page to build a committed buyer list before the day.
- Package smaller items into bags of 3–4 for a higher per-transaction sale value.
- A themed bake sale (Great British Bake Off style, seasonal themes) generates more social media interest than a plain sale.
