Sports and fitness fundraising ideas in the US
A physical challenge gives supporters a clear reason to give: someone they know is training hard for a cause. Pick a challenge that stretches you, then let people follow your progress.
Sports & Fitness ideas
Swim Challenge
Take on a distance swimming challenge in a pool, open water, or the sea. Accessible, low-impact, and surprisingly powerful as a fundraiser.
Sponsored Cycle Ride
Take on a distance challenge on two wheels. From a local 20-mile ride to a multi-day coast-to-coast epic, cycling challenges suit every fitness level.
Run a Marathon
Take on 26.2 miles for charity. Marathons are one of the most powerful personal fundraising challenges — supporters love backing a big physical goal.
How to plan your sports and fitness fundraiser
Sponsored challenges work because the goal is easy to explain. "I am running a marathon for our hospice" is a story people repeat, and every training update is a new reason to share the link. Choose a distance or event that is genuinely hard for you, whether that is a first 10k, a long cycle ride or a month of swimming lengths.
Set up your fundraising page before you announce the challenge. On Kayana Aid you can create your own page for a nonprofit campaign, or a team page so a running club or office can take part together, with every donation counted towards the same campaign. Post training updates on the page, share the link after each milestone and thank people as their gifts arrive.
On the day, share photos and a finish-line update. Many donations arrive after the event, so post your result and send one last thank-you with the link.
Common questions
Which sports challenge is easiest to start with?
A swim challenge is marked Easy in our guides: you choose the distance, swim at your own pool and log your progress. A marathon is marked Challenging because it needs months of training and often a race place.
Can a group take on a challenge together?
Yes. Create a team page for the campaign so everyone fundraises under one name, while each member can still share their own page.
How do supporters donate?
They give online from your fundraising page link or its QR code, with a one-off or monthly donation, and get an email confirmation straight away.
