Can I claim Gift Aid on my donation?

What Gift Aid is, who qualifies, and how to add a declaration when donating.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that allows registered charities to reclaim basic-rate income tax on donations made by eligible UK taxpayers. For every £1 you donate, the charity can claim an additional 25p from HMRC — at no extra cost to you.

To be eligible, you must be a UK taxpayer and must have paid at least as much income tax or capital gains tax in the current tax year as the charity will claim on your donations.

How to add a Gift Aid declaration

During the donation checkout, you'll see a Gift Aid section with a checkbox. Tick it and confirm your full name and home address. That's it — Kayana Aid passes the declaration securely to the charity, who submits it to HMRC.

If you've already donated and want to add a Gift Aid declaration retrospectively, contact the charity directly or email support@kayana.co.uk.

Higher-rate taxpayers

If you pay income tax at the higher (40%) or additional (45%) rate, you can personally claim back the difference between your tax rate and the basic rate on your self-assessment tax return. For a £100 donation, a 40% taxpayer could reclaim £25 personally on top of the 25% the charity already received.
